New Saint-Gobain bird protection glass

With the 4BIRD collection, Saint-Gobain presents four tested designs for highly effective bird protection. The designs can be applied to glass from 5 mm, to float glass, to toughened safety glass or LSG. This allows for durable as well as sustainable bird-friendly solutions and at the same time, Saint-Gobain's wide range of special glazing can be used for energy management or security concepts in glass. A homogeneous and neutral exterior aesthetic is maintained.

All variants have in common that black or black/orange dot patterns in the form of stripes are applied to matt glass panes. These are very discreet and yet provide highly effective bird protection with a surface area of only 3.9 to a maximum of 5.56 per cent.

How is the bird protection applied to the glass?

In the 4BIRDFrit series, the design is applied using a screen printing process. In combination with the Cool-Lite SKN 183 II solar control coating, this process opens up a wide range of possibilities for realising energy management and species protection economically.

In contrast to the screen printing process, the 4BIRDEtch series uses acid etching. The patterns are etched on the first layer and selected Cool-Lite layers are applied to the second layer. The unique Easypro protective coating technology protects during transportation, allowing both the etched pattern and the Cool-Lite solar control coatings to be applied to a single glass. Complex glass structures are avoided, costs minimised and weight saved.
