With the floating platform, Punta de Mar has aimed to create a very special experience of a sea holiday for its users. The floating house is a well thought-out construction that is both functional and environmentally friendly. The guests should experience the environment with all their senses, while enjoying the privacy, comfort, relaxation and well-being that the house provides.
This was made possible in part thanks to the enveloping glass that came from Guardian Glass. As a strategic partner in the project, the glass supplier also provided advice on the use of the appropriate glass.
Frances de Paula García, architect at Mano de Santo, explains: "We deliberately chose Guardian Glass for this project. Considering the special features of the project with its extremely high requirements, we were looking for a high-performance partner".
The 74 m2 prototype is designed to accommodate two people. The house is divided into two floors, which are designed and equipped in a minimalist manner: The 40 m2 first floor includes a bedroom with bathroom and a terrace as an extension of the interior. The 34 m2 second floor is designed as a relaxation deck.
The glass used
In the floating construction, Guardian triple glazing provides high energy efficiency, safety and sound insulation. A selective solar control glass is used on the outside, followed by Guardian ExtraClear as the middle pane and laminated safety glass with Guardian ClimaGuard Premium2 coating on the inside. The light transmission is 61 %, the g-value is 32 %.
For the floating Punta de Mar house, this results in a high-performance basic element with high energy efficiency thanks to very good thermal insulation and a high degree of solar control as well as safety and sound insulation.

A grand tower for Frankfurt
Guardian SunGuard HD Silver 20 was specified for the interior - for the wardrobes, the headboards of the beds and the bathroom - to create different light reflections. The mirror effects provide privacy here, while in other areas there are interesting, playful effects that create a sense of spaciousness and the merging of the interior and exterior, according to the architects.
A fitting complement to the glass are the sliding elements, which, thanks to the use of aluminium profiles with reduced dimensions, allow doors and windows to be opened to the maximum, providing unobstructed views and optimum natural light. Frances de Paula García says: "It was crucial to make the right choice in terms of glass and building materials. Our goal was to achieve a perfect connection with the surroundings. In addition, the glass used for the living area should allow a 360-degree panoramic view".
A smart house
The lighting in the building is biodynamic. This means that the colour tone reproduces the natural ambient light in the interior corresponding to the daylight outside. Guests can adjust lighting conditions, audio systems, ambient scents and the level of security as required via an app. The structure can be easily transported by water or land.
