The new Square is a terraced building that elegantly blends into the surrounding topography. The glass facade was fitted with facade glass from the Swiss specialist Glas Trösch.
The building envelope was designed as a closed double-skin facade. This supports productivity in the interior with plenty of natural light, without neglecting the requirements for maximum energy efficiency. Exactly 448 facade elements in 304 different designs were installed on site by the Swiss facade construction specialist Aepli Metallbau.
How is the Glas Trösch facade glass constructed?
Each element of the triple unit consists of a float glass and a laminated safety glass (LSG), which is coated with the Silverstar EN2Plus coating from Glas Trösch. This combines very good thermal insulation properties with high light transmission.
The outer impact pane is also coated and printed with a dot pattern on the back, which gives the building envelope a special texture.
This finishing was carried out by screen printing specialist BGT Bischoff Glastechnik, a company of the Glas Trösch Group. The glass structure is complemented by a venetian blind located in the space between the facades, which is safely protected from dirt and damage caused by the weather.

While a large part of the Square's energy is supplied by geothermal probes and a photovoltaic system, the facade supports the building's energy efficiency in all seasons.
In winter, a Ug-value of 0.6 W/(m2K) stands for this, while on hot summer days a g-value of 50 per cent helps to prevent overheating inside the building. Meanwhile, the light transmission of the double skin facade is a high 70 per cent.
Visionary landmark in harmony with the surroundings
Despite the intended character of a landmark, it was important to the planners that the building be carefully integrated into the existing structure of the neighbouring buildings and the landscape. Thus, on Rosenberg, where the building stands, the towering building squares pick up on the levels of the surroundings, continue them and provide a prospect of the valley.
