The design for the Nivy Tower was created in cooperation between the architectural offices Benoy and Studio Siebert + Talaŝ. Together they also developed the concept for the new Stanica Nivy quarter with office and commercial space as well as a wide range of leisure facilities. The focal point there is the Nivy Tower with 29 floors and a height of 125 metres. From the rooftop restaurant, you have a breath-taking view of the new quarter with the city centre and Danube loop.
The glass facade of the Nivy Towers, with a surface area of 19,000 square metres, is patterned by different coloured glass panels. The architects wanted Saint-Gobain Glass to provide a technically high-quality glass in two different shades - and with values for light transmission and thermal insulation as close to identical as possible.
The client, HB Reavis, also placed high demands on the material: at least 60 per cent light transmission and a maximum external reflection of 13 to 26 per cent. "Both presented us with major challenges", recalls Pavel Nečas, project manager at Saint-Gobain Building Glass.
Visual reflection thanks to different layers
After intensive discussions with architects and clients, Saint-Gobain tackled the challenge by combining different layers. Different degrees of reflection provide a greenish to bluish shimmering hue.

Bronze-coloured facade that generates power
The facade was designed with the triple glazing Climatop Cool-Lite SKN 176 and with Climatop Cool-Lite Xtreme 70/33 II - a neutral and highly selective solar control glass. The special glass Eclaz One, developed by Saint-Gobain with a special low-E coating technology, ensures a very high daylight utilisation and efficient use of solar energy.
The strictly structured facade is given a special rhythm by interspersed opaque glass fields. For this purpose, the insulating glass panes were printed with ceramic. "Only high-quality building glass can meet these high demands in terms of appearance, light transmission, solar control and safety", says the architectural consultant of Saint-Gobain Glass. In the meantime, the company is even thinking about offering different colour qualities in the future.
The Nivy Tower is the first building in Slovakia to be awarded the BREEAM certificate and to meet the WELL Building Standard.
