Swisspacer: Far views with a high level of comfort in South Tyrol

If you can build a south-facing hillside property in the South Tyrolean Eisack Valley with a wide view of the medieval city centre of Bressanone, generous window openings are an absolute must for the undisturbed view. However, in sun-drenched South Tyrol, considerable solar entries can be expected, which can lead to undesired overheating of the interior, especially in summer.

For this modern single-family house near Brixen, the architects therefore worked with a trick to protect the large window areas in summer from too much sunlight. The two floors of the organically shaped building are crowned by wide cantilevered, curved ceiling panels that accommodate a spacious balcony and flat roof.

The usual sun shading measures, whether inside or outside, would achieve the desired effect in summer, but would also block the view.

The snow-white ceilings form an exciting contrast to the anthracite-coloured wooden cladding of the building. An oval opening in the roof window is large enough to let light through to the balcony below and placed so that the necessary shading is not endangered.

The outer walls of the two floors below are almost completely glazed. The fixed window elements and sliding doors guarantee the desired view of the valley at all times of the year and, with their narrow, anthracite-coloured aluminium profiles, blend discreetly into the dark wooden facade. FIN-Slide sliding doors and FIN Project windows have been integrated into the FIN-Vista window wall system from the South Tyrolean window manufacturer Finstral.

The modular system has many material combinations and offers a wide range of design options for the integration of different opening types. The version with glass covering the outside of the frame ensures maximum incidence of light. The plastic core ensures top values for thermal insulation.

Maximum incidence of light and the highest demands on thermal insulation and tightness are also the reason why the window planners at Finstral always use Swisspacer warm edge spacers in their energy-saving glazing.

The spacers make a significant contribution to reducing heat loss in the glazing and improving the energy efficiency of buildings. With their extremely low lambda values, depending on the frame material and glazing, they ensure minimal heat conduction at the edge of the insulating glass and a low Uw value for windows and facades.
