The requirements for energy efficiency and attractive working conditions are also increasing in industrial buildings. This is why the Horsch company opted for a high degree of natural lighting in its new production hall in Ronneburg thanks to a skylight solution with excellent thermal insulation values. Here are the details.
A total of four 100 metre long Vario-Therm continuous rooflights from Velux Commercial provide plenty of daylight and significantly reduce the need for electric lighting. Thanks to the excellent U-values for use in industrial buildings, the solution is one of the most energy-efficient in this sector.

Protecting the environment and wholesome people are among Horsch's top priorities. To this end, it develops technical and digital solutions for modern agriculture. However, the company not only pursues these premises in its products, but also in production itself.
Four Vario-Therm continuous rooflights in use
When building the new production hall, Horsch succeeded in significantly reducing the use of artificial light and creating bright workplaces with plenty of daylight and a pleasant indoor climate for the workforce thanks to large-scale skylight solutions. They opted for a solution with particularly good thermal insulation properties: four Vario-Therm continuous rooflights from Velux Commercial with impressive dimensions. With a width of 2.56 metres, three of the thermally broken continuous rooflights extend to a length of 102 metres and one to 96 metres.
The solution is characterised by its energy efficiency thanks to thermal bridge-free composite profiles. Thanks to the consistent thermal separation through the combination of PVC multi-chamber insulation construction and aluminium cover profile for design and protective function as well as the thermal bridge-free aluminium glazing bar construction, it impresses with a heat transfer coefficient Ug of just 1.82 W/(m²K).

The overall construction - not counting the frame - is 1.94 W/(m²K). Thanks to opal polycarbonate multi-skin sheets, glare-free, even lighting at the workplace is guaranteed, according to the supplier.
Energy from the roof
Horsch uses the roof of the production hall not only for lighting, but also to generate energy with photovoltaic modules. Equipping the continuous rooflights with DSL-type fall-through protection made of galvanised safety wire mesh with a mesh size of 90 x 100 mm ensures that the roof can be safely accessed for maintenance or cleaning of the modules, for example.
