Eastman and Seen:

Anti-bird strike interlayer

All over the world, billions of birds die every year from bird strike because they cannot see glass and then crash into window and facade panes. In order to better guarantee the safety of birds worldwide and to counteract bird strikes, Eastman and Seen are now working together to develop an anti-bird strike film for laminated glass panes.

The anti-bird strike film is also intended to help glass processors and suppliers to open up a new business segment. According to the cooperation partners, the new films should help to implement effective, aesthetic, bird-friendly glass solutions.

"Billions of birds are killed when they collide with glass windows, connecting bridges and curtain walls", explains Rouven Seidler von Scheen." This sad reality has inspired us to research appropriate solutions. Eastman is the ideal partner to bring such solutions to the market. With a performance proven at the Biological Station Hohenau-Ringelsdorf in Austria, our partnership will soon lead to suitable solutions for anti-bird strike products".

Bird friendly interlayers for glass

"The partnership with Seen AG in anti-bird strike film for bird proof glass will be a great opportunity to offer our customers an effective solution to a worldwide problem," says Matthias Haller, marketing technician at Eastman. Although there are no specific regulations for bird-safe glass yet, bird-friendly solutions will be an essential part of future criteria for building design.

Countries such as the US and Germany have begun to require developers to integrate bird conservation measures. New projects are already addressing the issue and Eastman plans to launch the anti-bird strike film by mid 2021.
