Fineo at BAU 2023

Now vacuum glass also provides fire protection

Looks like LSG at first glance, but is actually an insulating glass: a vacuum insulating glass with an SZR of only 0.1 mm thickness.

Fineo

Looks like LSG at first glance, but is actually an insulating glass: a vacuum insulating glass with an SZR of only 0.1 mm thickness.

Fineo vacuum glass, in combination with Pyrobel, will enable slimmer and lighter fire protection glass facades with high daylight transmission, which at the same time have a high thermal insulation of less than 0.5 W/(m2K).The vacuum glass "Fineo" is still technically unique: two glass panes melted on top of each other in the edge area, a 0.1 mm thin vacuum in between, permanently sealed - without conventional seals or an evacuation opening.

In addition to new Fineo structures with fire-protection glass, the manufacturer of vacuum glass will be showing new glass variants for the energy-efficient renovation and modernisation of existing buildings and will also be giving an outlook on upcoming solutions for new buildings.

How is vacuum glass constructed?

Fineo vacuum glass is only a few millimetres thin, and at the same time it insulates just as well as a triple thermal insulation glass five times as thick. Fineo achieves a thermal insulation value of 0.7 W/(m2k) in the monolithic construction, and actually less than 0.5 W/(m2K) in the "Fineo Hybrid" double insulating glass construction. Compared to Triple insulating glass, it lets up to 20 per cent more daylight into the room, achieves higher solar energy gains in the cold seasons and improves the rated sound reduction index (RW) by 3 decibels.

The longevity is also impressive: the technical values remain permanently constant due to the sealed vacuum, and there are no convection losses when installed at an angle. AGC already offers a 15-year warranty, but current ageing tests have shown that Fineo will still achieve its original output after 60 years.

Fineo

"Fineo" was installed in "The Noblemen", a hotel in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, by glass replacement. With the vacuum glass, the historic façade achieves a contemporary insulation value. Profiles and frames could be retained.

Fineo and Fineo Hybrid will be on show at BAU, as will the new variants "Fineo Solar Control" for additional sun shading, "FineoSafety" for more safety and "Fineo Acoustic" for even more effective sound insulation.

Vacuum glass for new and commercial buildings as well as refurbishments

With increasing pane sizes and toughened safety glass variants, Fineo is soon to conquer new and commercial buildings. In terms of sustainable building design, the thin glass enables slimmer, lighter profiles with less material input and an excellent CO2 footprint.

The aim is to use Cradle to Cradle certified, lightweight and energy-optimised windows and facades in new buildings. This would have a significant weight advantage over triple-glazed façades, and the gain in space and daylight from more delicate windows and façades should not be underestimated either.
