For some time now, a city cable car has been providing relief to the usual congestion problems of Mexico City. This solution is completely integrated into the public transport network and is accessible to all. The cable car takes about 26 minutes to cover the almost ten kilometres and transports 4,000 people per hour.

To make the technology of the cable car system more visible, it was decided to fit the stations with a roof and a large-scale facade made of glass. Not an easy task.
Prefabricated facade elements for faster assembly
Glas Marte developed a special solution for the cable car manufacturer that has since been applied to various projects: The lower and upper glass edges of the facade elements were glued into a profile at the factory. This made it possible to assemble the prefabricated glass elements very easily and quickly on site.
The maximum dimensions of 3,130 x 2,260 mm and the associated weight placed high demands on the glass bonding.

The Sentryglas 5000 interlayer of the laminated safety glass used, which is made of double laminated safety glass, also ensures strength. This ionoplastic film is five times stronger and one hundred times stiffer than conventional interlayers. This makes the glass more resistant to temperatures and loads.
