Insulating glass

Swisspacer celebrates 25 years of warm edge

In the 1990s, companies and research institutes began to focus increasingly on energy-efficient building products in order to reduce heat loss in buildings. A small component in the edge seal of insulating glass quickly became the centre of attention - the spacer bar.

From the outset, the term "warm edge" was used to emphasise the improved thermal insulation of these plastic spacers compared to conventional metal spacers. The warm edge is now firmly established in the construction industry. This is thanks to manufacturers such as Swisspacer.

Highly automated production at Swisspacer

Founded 25 years ago, the Swiss company has developed into a driving force and innovation leader - this is also reflected in the rapid increase in production capacity: "Since I joined in 2015, our output has almost doubled," says Matthias Bach, who has been the new Managing Director at Swisspacer since October, adding: "For example, a simple, straightforward production hall with floor block storage has now become a highly efficient, highly automated plant with a modern high-bay warehouse."

Swisspacer's new logo is fresh and confident to coincide with the company's anniversary: "The two vertical lines that now frame our lettering and the new choice of colours are more than just graphic elements," emphasises Eunike Heil, Lead Brand Management at Swisspacer. "Simple yet clear, they show the position and added value of our spacers - in the space between the panes, they make the decisive difference between warm and cold, between inside and outside."

The logo and choice of colours also visualise the multifaceted nature of the company and its connection to the Saint-Gobain Group. The logo was officially unveiled at anniversary celebrations at the Gliwice/Poland and Kreuzlingen/Switzerland sites.

Orientation towards a more sustainable future

The topic of sustainability will continue to drive the Swiss company in the future. "After all, reducing energy consumption is our core business," says Head of Sales and Marketing Sarah Sattler. "We are one of the few manufacturers of spacers that can provide an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for all widths - making Swisspacer the clear benchmark in our industry in terms of carbon footprint. And we want to keep it that way".

Swisspacer also sees great potential in the international environment: "The issue of climate change doesn't stop at national borders," explains Peter Appel, New Market Development Director. In many places, Swisspacer is something of a synonym for the warm edge.

"We can see that many countries are showing great interest in European specifications and local expertise. This offers great leverage for the entire industry and also for us with our Swiss quality promise."

Looking to the future

Matthias Bach emphasises that a united front is needed for this orientation: "Looking to the future, the decarbonisation of our industry is one of the biggest functions. We are already returning waste to the production cycle and have many more goals in precisely this direction. All of this is only possible with customers who challenge us and spur us on to become even better, as well as a competent and highly motivated team like ours."
