For public buildings, the building envelope must take on complex security tasks. High resistance classes are often required here - be it break-through, bullet or explosion-resistant functions or a combination of these. This also applies in particular to the security glass installed.

Whenever there is a risk of an attack involving a combination of firearms and effective tools, a combination glass is required. With its bullet-resistant Vetrogard glazing, Vetrotech offers a broad portfolio for all classifications according to EN and actually according to the US-American standard UL752.
If explosion resistance is also required, this must be tested in the frame system in combination with the glass or calculated by an appropriate engineering firm.
The complete system is relevant
When it comes to fire protection, bullet and explosion resistance, as well as burglary resistance, the complete system is more important today than ever before.
This means that frames, profiles, glass, seals, blocking, wall connection as well as the wall construction and installation method must always be considered holistically and coordinated with each other in order to achieve the desired resistance classes. In the event of damage, only the complete system in its tested and approved design can fulfil its intended protective function.
All the individual elements installed must fulfil all the security requirements, otherwise there is a risk that the system will fail.
High-security glass in multi-layer composite construction
High-security glass consists of a multi-layer composite with various interlayer films and glasses that withstand attack, burglary and escape attempts. For example, Vetrogard Bullet consists of a multi-layer composite that resists various types of bullets from handguns, long guns, shotguns and automatic weapons such as the AK-47.

Vetrogard Blast consists of a laminate of different types of glass and high proportions of foil, which have the effect of absorbing a blast wave in an explosion and catching flying fragments. As a result, this high-tech glazing remains in its frame because it yields elastically when hit by a blast wave. However, the more effective this multi-layer composite is, the thicker and heavier the glass structure is.
Lighter glass panes with the same level of safety
Vetrotech is constantly developing new, much lighter and thinner variants in this segment, such as the Polygard product range. These use polycarbonate (PC) in a high-security glass laminate, which in the case of Polygard Bullet, for example, effectively prevents the passage of fired projectiles without causing shrapnel on the protective side.
Compared to conventional laminated glass, this product offers up to 40% less thickness and up to 50% less weight for the same resistance class.
Although it is a high security glass, it can be combined with glasses of various other functions such as thermal insulation, fire protection, design and alarming.
