The firing of the new float in Porz marks the start of a new furnace journey. This step marks the start of the plant's recommissioning in the coming weeks. Tempering, a process that takes several weeks, brings the furnace to its operating temperature of around 1500 °C. The first glass production is planned for the end of June.
As part of the comprehensive cold repair, numerous systems and technologies were modernised, particularly in the environmental area.

The furnace was equipped with an energy-efficient design, modern waste heat utilisation and extended exhaust gas cleaning. These measures lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
The first float in Germany was located in Porz
The plant in Porz looks back on 125 years of history in glass production. In 1966, the First German Float (EDF) was commissioned there with an output of 250 tonnes per day - the first glass plant in Germany with a float production process.

Today, the plant achieves a maximum output of 1000 tonnes per day and produces glass elements of up to 18 metres in length. This makes Porz one of Saint-Gobain's most important glass production sites worldwide.
