We asked Sebastian Dengg, Technical Manager of Silatec GmbH in Gelting, Germany, why there is no sample solution and how the glass, the profile rebate area and the glazing bead are optimally matched to each other.
gw_news - Mr. Dengg, how must the respective safety glass be coordinated with the frame? Are there any technical specifications here?
Sebastian Dengg - The glass connection represents the link between tested glass and tested frame system and must also withstand the burglary test. Our safety glass can be used in all frame materials made of wood, aluminium, steel or plastic. Therefore there is no sample solution or detailed specifications. Here, the system of glass-profile-folding-room glazing bead must be optimally matched to each other. Due to the low thickness and the low weight, our anti-panic glasses can be optimally integrated into existing systems. Many well-known profile system manufacturers have already benefited from our individual advice and many years of experience, with whom we have successfully carried out individually coordinated burglary tests.
gw_news - How does the processor know whether a tested panic glass is required?
Dengg - In principle it must be stated that as soon as panic glass is required, it must also be tested as such. Unfortunately, there are many misunderstandings and half-knowledge about the requirements for burglar-resistant glass in escape and rescue routes. A glass that has only been tested according to EN356 can be broken in a matter of seconds and the internal panic fitting can be opened. We show this very impressively in our video. There is a small list of keywords that the user should pay attention to, among other things, in order to be able to deal with the topic: Escape and rescue routes, door fittings according to DIN EN 179 or DIN EN 1125, glass with polycarbonate, etc. A detailed list can be found on our website (www.sicherheitsglas.de).
gw_news - Who are your customers? Does Silatec also act as a supplier for other glass processors?
Dengg - As a rule, the required glass type is specified in the test certificates or processing instructions of the system manufacturers. The processors, i.e. frame builders who assemble this glass, can buy it from their glass dealers or directly from us. Glass processors can also purchase our certified panic glasses and process them into insulating glass, for example.
gw_news - Can Silatec safety and security glass also fulfill the function of fire protection?
Dengg - Of course, we can supplement our panic glass with approved fire-resistant glass on request. Our comprehensive system tests allow us to supplement all resistance classes with fire-resistant glass EI30, EI60 or EI90. Some system suppliers have had their products tested and certified with our glass. If it is not possible to fall back on such an approval, we consider approval in individual cases to be a mere formality. We have a lot of experience in the field of safety glass and would be happy to advise you.
