AGC shuts down second float line in France

The AGC plant in Boussois specialises in the production of flat glass for the construction industry and employs 135 people. It operates in a market affected by overcapacity in Europe and, for some months, by very strong price pressure due to the inevitable impact of the energy surcharge. The intention to close the B2 line is aimed at preserving AGC's flat glass activities in Europe.

The site in northern France includes two float units The B1 line, which was shut down in 2020 due to the Covid 19 crisis, offers some potential that would allow it to contribute to AGC's goals to decarbonise its production process by 2030 if the market requires it, the company said

What's next for employees?

Against this backdrop, it has been proposed to the trade unions and, consequently, to part of the workforce, to implement various social measures together with the plan to safeguard employment, which will make it possible to obtain a range of appropriate skills beyond the maintenance of industrial equipment.

As far as the social aspect is concerned, AGC will propose and discuss with the staff representatives a support plan, while respecting the legal and contractual provisions applicable to such a decommissioning.
