Guardian Glass Europe:

Bascharage plant in Luxembourg gets new float glass furnace

The Guardian Group had already announced that it would merge its two Luxembourg production sites located in Dudelange and Bascharage in 2020. As part of the investment programme, Guardian Glass will consolidate all of its production activities, including the Dudelange rolling mill in Bascharage.

Now the announcement came that Guardian Glass will invest in a new float glass production line within the Bascharage production site. By late 2022, the existing furnace will be replaced and the new one is expected to be operational sometime in 2023. The new facility will improve energy efficiency as well as the overall environmental performance of float glass production, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. This facility modernisation programme will receive investment aid for environmental protection from the Ministry of the Economy.

Guus Boekhoudt, Executive Vice President of Guardian Glass and Managing Director of Guardian Europe, said, “The story of Guardian Glass in Luxembourg began 40 years ago in Bascharage with the group’s first float glass production plant outside the United States. Thanks to this new investment in Bascharage, glass production in Luxembourg will continue for the next 15 to 20 years. I would particularly like to thank the Luxembourg government, and in particular the Ministry of the Economy, for all the support given to the development of Guardian in Luxembourg.”
