In 2023, Şişecam allocated 63.5 percent of its 9.35 million euros of R&D budget to sustainability-focused projects. Sustainable products accounted for 16.2 percent of the company’s total revenue. Locally sourced materials continue to be a priority, with 79.1 percent of Şişecam's total procurement budget spent locally and 86 percent of raw materials sourced from local suppliers.

Solar energy investments in Turkey and Italy expanded Şişecam’s renewable energy capacity to 10 megawatts, while water consumption per unit of production decreased by 25 percent compared to 2020. Environmental expenditures for the year totalled 13.16 million euros.
Technological integration and workplace safety
In the area of occupational health and safety, Şişecam implemented a Virtual Reality Project at its Bursa, Eskişehir and Mersin plants. This initiative provides production line employees with a safer environment for training by simulating work instructions virtually before they are performed on-site.
Developing a low-carbon roadmap
Şişecam continued its efforts to develop a low-carbon roadmap in 2023, with an initial focus on glass production. This project is part of the company’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through the identification and prioritization of appropriate technological alternatives.

Şişecam is working towards increasing gender equality within its workforce. By the end of 2023, the percentage of women employees reached 23.6 percent, with a total of 5,671 women employed. As part of its ongoing initiatives, Şişecam aims to increase this percentage to at least 25 percent through the establishment of more inclusive facilities under its equality policy.
