"Many things that were laughed at just a few years ago have become reality and are now indispensable, such as bird protection glass," said Hans-Joachim Arnold in his welcoming speech in Potsdam. What lies ahead for the industry and how it can solve the new requirements were the focus of the conference.
At the annual conference of the Isolar Group, the winners of the internal object competition were also announced. The winners come from Germany, Austria and Spain. And a deserving Isolar member was also honoured.
The new central library of the University of Marburg is another architectural highlight for the city. The building nevertheless sets its own design accent. Exciting: the glass facade of the atrium consists of around 1300 square metres of Ornilux mikado bird protection glass from Isolar. Here are the details.
The architect Zaha Hadid set new standards in design and form with her futuristic architecture. For a long time, her dynamic buildings were considered unfeasible in terms of construction technology, but then came the breakthrough. One of her last works is the Argos design house in Graz. Facade glass from Isolar is installed there.
Near Innsbruck's main railway station, a total of 173 residential units were built as part of the Pema 2. The facade architecture of the 50-metre-high building is unique. Depending on how the light falls in, it quotes the surrounding mountain formations.
In this edition of our webinar series GW-News Talks, Marcel Bilow of the Technical University Delft and Hannes Spiß of Isolar have been discussing some of the latest developments in the facade industry. See the video recording of the session here:
In our series of free talks highlighting the latest developments of the facade and glass industry, we next cover facades of the future and what is the best material is best.
At the beginning of June, the Isolar partners met for their annual conference 2022 in Tyrol, Austria. It was the first time they had met face-to-face since the beginning of the pandemic. Overall, the mood was positive and - despite the sometimes difficult market conditions - the tenor of the participants was that they were looking purposefully ahead.
The demands on facade glass in terms of safety and optical quality are increasing. Glass expert Hannes Spiß is a specialist for functional glass, especially for facade glass and large-format glass applications. In this interview, he explains why such glass is often made of safety glass, what this means in terms of optical qualities and how this also affects (upmarket) residential construction.
The transparency and reflection of glass makes windows and facades dangerous for birds. Vegetation and sky are reflected in the glass or birds do not see the glass surfaces, in both cases they fly towards it and collide with it. The result: millions of dead birds. Find out how complex glass facades and bird protection can be optimally combined with Ornilux glass.
