Due to the ongoing pandemic and the continuing worldwide lockdown measures as well as international travel restrictions, glasstec will not take place in 2021 as planned. In close consultation with associations and partners, Messe Düsseldorf has decided to cancel glasstec, which had already been postponed from 2020 to 2021 and was slated to take place from 15 to 18 June 2021. The next glasstec is now scheduled for 20 to 23 September 2022.
What has the head of Messe Düsseldorf had to say about the cancellation of glasstec 2021?
Under the given circumstances, a successful event on the planned date in June is still not guaranteed, says Erhard Wienkamp, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf: "On 03 March 2021, the Conference of the Federal Government and the Federal States decided on a further extension of the nationwide lockdown. Based on this and due to the continued risk of infection, we cannot guarantee that the event will be held in the usual form and quality. In particular, the continued travel restrictions would mean that glasstec, with its high proportion of international exhibitors and visitors, would not be able to live up to its character as the world's leading trade fair for the glass industry."
And Wienkamp continues: " We have reassessed the situation with our partners and jointly decided to cancel glasstec in June at an early stage. Our priority is the planning security of our exhibitors, visitors and service providers. All activities will now be focused on successfully staging glasstec 2022."
Egbert Wenninger, Chairman of the glasstec Advisory Board and Chairman of the VDMA Glass Technology Forum adds: "glasstec is and will remain the most important global event for the glass industry, mechanical engineering and the skilled trades, and it brings people together from all over the world. Unfortunately, a glasstec in 2021 cannot live up to this claim. The economic revival of the glass industry has already set in and will make glasstec an international happening for the glass industry again next year," says Wenninger.
How will glasstec 2022 be organised?
For 2022, work is also being done on a hybrid trade fair experience to enable, among other things, digital participation in conferences and special shows such as glass technology live. glasstec 2022 will be launched with the registration portal for interested companies in June this year.
