PVC recycling

Remondis and Schüco join forces for the recycling market

PVC windows have a service life of around 40 years. The PVC used for them can be recycled without any significant loss in quality; the material can be used as a building element for several hundred years. Schüco is already involved in the Rewindo recycling initiative to ensure that PVC windows can be recycled after their active service life and that the valuable material is reused as often as necessary.

Now Schüco would like to further expand this commitment with regard to the company's sustainability goals. For this reason, Remondis Recycling GmbH & Co. KG and Schüco Polymer Technologies KG agreed at the beginning of August 2022 to pool their expertise, subject to examination by the relevant authorities under competition law. In future, the plastic recycling process will be mapped via Re:Core GmbH - with the aim of closing Schüco's own PVC recycling loop and offering Schüco partner companies an exclusive recycling service for profile offcuts from window construction as well as from old windows.

Future-oriented circular construction

Markus Herbst, management spokesman for Schüco Polymer Technologies KG, is looking forward to the collaboration: "At Schüco, we see a closed PVC materials cycle as a further strategic step towards a future-oriented circular construction method. A company like Remondis is a perfect fit for our sustainability strategy."

Ralf Mandelatz, Remondis Managing Director, adds: "Both companies share the ambition of conserving raw materials worldwide and reducing climate and environmental damage caused by the extraction of primary raw materials. We are constantly working on developing new technologies and thinking about resource conservation in its entirety."

Promoting a European PVC material cycle

Remondis, based in Essen, Germany, is a specialist in the processing of plastics and glass. The subsidiary belonging to the Remondis Group specialises in the management of complex material flows and subsequent processing.

Materials are professionally processed using state-of-the-art technology and returned to the economic cycle as high-quality recycling raw materials. Remondis and Schüco want to combine forces in order to promote a European PVC material cycle for building elements and thus make a further contribution to conserving resources and saving energy.
