The latest CMS system for glass processing is the Ypsos, a vertical CNC processing centre. As a further development of the proven CNC system "Profile", the Ypsos offers a multitude of improvements and new functions; it is capable of precisely grinding, edging, drilling and milling both mono and laminated glass. Since it is a vertical machine, it requires significantly less space than horizontal machines. This is particularly interesting for glass processors with limited space.
Three standard sizes are available for processing glass up to 6000 × 3300 mm (other sizes on request). The Ypsos can be used as a stand-alone machine, in line with a drilling-milling machine or in an ISO line. According to the developers, it is also easy to operate: The glass is simply placed on the glass feed, the machine grips the glass pane and starts processing.
According to CMS, the Ypsos is the world's first vertical CNC system capable of simultaneous grinding and polishing with two spindles. It can cover a wide range of glass thicknesses, from 3 to 30 mm. At the same time, the Ypsos has an automatic measurement of the glass size, thickness and squareness of the glass pane, as well as a correction function that monitors the wear of the grinding wheels and drills.
The electronics and pneumatics of the system have been placed outside the wet area of the machine to optimise durability. At the same time, the system is easier to maintain. And automatic monitoring of the grinding wheels and drills serves to ensure constant output and minimises downtime.
High-pressure cleaning of the suction cups is carried out before each work cycle to ensure optimum adhesion of the glass to be processed.
The new Scada software has been equipped with an intuitive user interface to make the system easy to operate.
According to CMS, the new Ypsos combines high precision with efficient system performance and user-friendly operation.
