Facade builder Gartner secures contract in London

Facade expert Gartner, part of the Permasteelisa Group, is implementing two different types of facade for the facade contract for the new building at 50 Fenchurch Street. Once operational, the building is expected to be climate-neutral and one of London's first fully electric high-rise buildings, as well as one of the lowest-carbon high-rise buildings. With new construction practices, it is set to become a globally recognised example of sustainability.

The lower floors of the tower and the new Clothworkers‘ Hall will feature a two-storey post-and-beam facade with a terracotta curtain wall in the Clothworkers’ Hall area.

A building with two different types of facade

A closed cavity facade (CCF) with integrated automatic blinds will be installed on the tower floors to maximise daylight while controlling solar radiation.

A building with vertical gardens

It will be the first building of this size in the City of London to feature such extensive vertical landscaping. This includes indoor and outdoor gardens on the 10th floor, designed by architecture and urban planning firm DSDHA, as well as more than 40 planted balconies and terraces, which will be home to a total of over 70 different plant species.

This urban greening is intended to reduce air pollution and noise levels while improving biodiversity. A public roof garden and a winter garden are also planned.

This contract is further proof of the facade specialist's ongoing commitment to delivering significant projects in London. The innovative Closed Cavity facade will help this building achieve its goal of CO2 neutrality once it is operational.
